COMPOST BINS
DO YOU NEED A COMPOST BIN??
This is a question I tend to ask on my free consultation site walks especially in Vermont. In Vermont earlier this summer the state passed a law that prohibits people to throw food scraps in the trash. This left many people to scramble and figure out how to compost.
This then left people with quite a few options:
You could build a bin….
Buy a compost bin online….
Pickup service or bring your scraps to a recycling center in their community.
In this post I am going to focus on options 1 and 2 above. The comments I have heard from many people are the bins online are just so expensive. With that comment in mind I have developed a cost effective solution for compost bins. These bins any homeowner can build in an afternoon with the following materials.
Wood posts and sides of your choosing.
Deck screws (epoxy coated).
1 roll of Poultry netting.
Hinges for the top to be lifted off the frame.
Hook and eye to attach the top and frame.
Above is the compost bin that I built over the weekend and will keep the animals and rodents away (I hope. haha )and in turn will give us plenty of room to compost our food scraps for a full year.
Are you interested in learning more about composting and the benefits to our environment. Below is a great article that the state of Vermont published for composting and I found this to be a really great resource.

Installation instructions to construct the bin yourself.
Don’t worry I am here to help you along the way and I will be available for any questions you may have during the process.
I look forward to hearing from you and thank you for your time! Have a great day.
